  • Abstract
This paper gives a genetic algorithm solution to optimal configuration of power systems. The genetic algorithm is a heuristic technique based on principles inspired from the genetic and evolution mechanisms observed in natural systems and populations of living beings. Reliability is an important factor in modern power systems. The maintenance of power supply reliability and reducing loss of load in a fault are done favorably in comparison with an optimal configuration of the power system based on power system reliability only. By not only using power system reliability but also loss of load in a fitness function, high performance optimal configuration of power systems can be obtained. The demonstration of optimal configuration of power systems is shown with simulation results
