Abstract
Reviews the development of optical media. There are currently three systems for rewritable media, these being dye-in polymer (DIP), phase change rewritable (PCR) and thermo-magneto-optic (TMO). Each of these systems have its own advantages and disadvantages. Rewritable optical products have yet to gain widespread application, partly due to a lack of embedded drive availability. Increasing use of 3.5" drives by hardware manufacturers and the launch of products in the consumer sector should, however, accelerate their acceptance
