A design for multimedia desk-to-desk conferencing

The authors describe an interactive multimedia application for cooperative work known as desk-to-desk conferencing. The application enables participants to communicate with others sharing personal computer screens in real time and work together on common images. It is targeted for the broad set of connected personal computers and requires little effort to install and use. The authors review the requirements and benefits expected from such applications and the technologies that make them possible today. They describe their experience at IBM in developing a desk-to-desk conferencing system
