New multimedia services based on the hypermedia paradigm

The author analyzes the impact of the hypermedia notion on multimedia integration evolution, introducing a new information unit called hypermedia composition, and outlining several hypermedia based services. Some guidelines needed for the object oriented design of a hypermedia kernel are presented. Within the R1038 RACE project, a multimedia terminal has been developed which provides hypermedia services and is a suitable platform for the future research in this area. The main characteristics of this terminal and the terminal adapter developed are described
