Abstract
Defines a structured methodology for modeling operational specifications in a hardware description language. The authors for the first time implement a methodology in a hardware description language that supports a unified design path. The methodology presented describes how a set of statecharts, which are derived from the end user requirements, may evolve into an operational specification written in the VHSIC hardware description language, VHDL. This methodology leads to the semi-automated development of operational specification models
