  • Abstract
This paper presents a simple timing analysis of an IEEE 802.11b independent basic service set (ad-hoc) network, considering streaming video traffic. The paper starts with a theoretical approach on the timing factors which govern the functionality of IEEE 802.11b wireless networks supporting streaming video traffic. Furthermore, the total video frame transmission delay is determined and its influencing parameters are identified. Simulations confirm the mathematical analysis and present an interesting finding. The frame delay of large video frames (e.g., I-frames) is inversely influenced by the payload size meaning that the higher the segment size selected the lower the total video frame transmission time.
