  • Abstract
A closed-loop control for field-oriented induction motor drives by considering the efficiency in the steady-state operation is presented. The concept is based on the operation properties of variable-voltage variable frequency (VVVF) inverters by regulating the exciting magnetic field at d-axis. The nonideal factors affecting machine performance, such as core saturation, source harmonics, and skin effect are considered. Efficiency evaluations of constant flux operation are also given for comparison. The principle of the field-oriented control on induction motors is then introduced to find out the optimal efficiency point of dq model induction of the motor by using the result of the VVVF simulation. The experimental results of a 2 HP induction motor field-oriented control are given to confirm the analysis.<>
