  • Abstract
Electronic power and control technology proliferates through industry, increasing both the number of disturbing loads (e.g. variable speed drives) and the number of sensitive loads (e.g. control devices, PCs, ripple control equipment, capacitors). Disturbance (i.e. deformation of the balanced and purely sinusoidal supply voltage) does not necessarily imply malfunctioning of equipment or processes. Such interference occurs only when the actual disturbance level is not compatible with the sensitive loads connected to the supply system. Compatibility problems may occur in totally new installations as well as in existing plants. The approach proposed in this paper takes into account the various aspects of the compatibility problem at hand, and the specific competence of the various parties involved in order to obtain an adequate solution
