Abstract
The narrowband frequency characteristics of straight-wire antennas can be overcome by proper loading of the antenna. The bandwidth characteristics of the loaded antennas are investigated through an optimization routine. A bandwidth ratio of 7.58:1 is achieved with a 0.75 meter long capacitively loaded antenna and a simple matching network. The current distribution of the antenna is determined numerically by the method of moments (MoM). The input impedance can then be calculated easily with the knowledge of the excitation voltage across the terminals of the antenna.
