Abstract
A novel predictive current control for a sparse matrix converter is presented. The sparse matrix converter is functionally-equivalent to the standard matrix converter but has a reduced number of switches. The predictive current control uses a model of the system to predict the future value of load current and generates the reference voltage vector that minimizes a given cost function so that SVM(Space Vector Modulation) is achieved. This strategy is very simple and powerful. The results are compared with those of conventional control with proportional integral (PI) current control schemes, and show the effectiveness very well of the proposed control method for sparse matrix converter.
