Abstract
The moment method expresses electromagnetic scattering problems in terms of an N by N full matrix Z. The impedance matrix localization (IML) method transforms this problem into one involving a matrix T. T has many small elements which may reasonably be approximated by zero. This physical interpretation is used as a guide to developing a more efficient numerical method.
