  • Abstract
An efficient procedure is described for designing linear-phase FIR (finite impulse response) prototype filters for perfect-reconstruction critically sampled filter banks where both the analysis and the synthesis filters are obtained from this prototype filter using a cosine modulation. This algorithm can be used for maximizing the minimum stopband attenuation of either the prototype filter or the resulting filters in the bank. The design procedure is constructed on the basis of the Jing-Fam optimization algorithm for minimax approximation problems. The selection of good initial values for the algorithm is considered in detail
