Abstract
The authors describe test-fabricated 20 kHz carrier frequency PWM inverters with static induction thyristors, which have an output of 200 V, 30 kVA at single phase and 60 Hz. The motivation was to improve the control characteristics and reduce the noise of PWM inverters applicable to uninterruptible power supplies and motor drives. The inverters are characterized by instantaneous value control of output voltage (using a minor current loop) and the use of a direct digital control system consisting mainly of digital signal processors. A detailed description of the inverter is given, followed by a brief discussion of test results and the applications of the unit.<>
