  • Abstract
A real time embedded system must react correctly to changes in the environment in which it is operating. It must do this within defined time limits which are often critically short. Due to this and the nature of the environments in which they operate, real-time embedded systems are inherently complex. Characteristics of real-time embedded systems include hard response times, safety criticality and the need for predictable peak load performance. These characteristics set real-time embedded systems apart from other types of system and make their design and development a non trivial process. The Data Oriented Requirements Implementation Scheme is a set of integrated methods and associated tools for the development of real time, embedded, multiprocessor systems. It covers the whole of the development life cycle from the requirements analysis through to implementation in software and hardware. The main aim of DORIS is to support the development of safe and reliable systems. Particular emphasis has been placed on direct support for the development of multiprocessor systems and reducing timing indeterminacies
