Abstract
In this paper, we present Post-Forecast OT (Octree), a novel method of 3D model compression codec based on Octree. Vertices of 3D meshes are re-classified according to the Octree rule. All the nodes of the Octree are statistically analyzed to identify the type of nodes with the max proportion and are encoded with fewer bits. The vertices positions are predicted and recorded, which can effectively reduce the error between the decoded vertices and the corresponding vertices in the original 3D model. Compared with prior 3D model progressive codec method with severe distortion at low bit rates, Post-Forecast OT has better performance while providing a pleasant visual quality. We also encode the topology and attribute information corresponding to the geometry information, which enables progressive transmission of all encoded 3D data over the Internet.
