Abstract
An optimized digital PID controller for a single-phase power factor-correcting (PFC) power converter is proposed in this paper. With the help of a genetic algorithm searching mechanism, the parameters of the digital PID compensator are selected and optimized based on time domain specifications such as response time, percentage of overshoot etc. for a step reference. The phase margin of the feedback loop is checked to ensure the stability of the system controlled by this optimized PID controller. The simulation shows excellent results in terms of response time and output overshoot for a step reference. This design approach provides an attractive alternative way to classical frequency domain methods to design a digital PID controller of the PFC power converter. It can be easily extended to applications for all switching regulator control loops design
