Abstract
A ring model with adaptive retransmission strategies is introduced for local radio communications without power control to alleviate the long packet delay suffered by users located far from the base station. In this ring model, users in different rings employ separate retransmission strategies based upon the capture probability of their packets and adaptively change their retransmission strategies as they move from ring to ring. The retransmission delay allocated to users in a ring farther from the base station is shorter than that allocated to those in a ring closer to the base station in order to achieve approximately the same average packet delay throughout the network. The case of a ring model with approximately equal ring throughput is analyzed
