Abstract
In summers of 1997 and 1998 complex oceanographic experiments were carried out in the fishery area of the open part of the Norwegian Sea. During the experiment a few ERS-2 low and full resolution SAR scenes were acquired and analyzed. Several eddies attached to the Norwegian Current frontal zone were detected from the radar images. They were verified by in situ ship measurements of vertical distribution of water temperature, salinity and fluorescence in the upper 50 m layer. The observations were compared with AVHRR data. The interannual variability was analyzed from the data of 1997 and 1998
