  • Abstract
Directional ocean wave spectra are important because they provide a quantitative analysis of the ocean surface. The use of HF radar as a remote sensing tool for the measurement of directional wave spectra has been shown to be feasible in recent years. HF radar is a particularly effective tool as it not only has excellent range (typically 150 km-200 km offshore), but also has excellent spatial, temporal and frequency resolution permits the analysis of directional wave spectra to a fine degree. This paper describes progress that has been made in implementing algorithms to analyse the spectra in a machine automatic manner
