Abstract
Ontology-based approaches have been widely introduced to enable semantic interoperability and reasoning over product information models. Most of the existing systems focus on how to build an ontology and how to map product information to the ontology. The reasoning issues are rarely discussed. General ontology reasoners are directly used without any comparison or evaluation. In fact, most of the existing ontology reasoners are developed for general purposes in the Semantic Web (SW). They have limitations when they are applied to Product Design and Manufacturing (PDM). This paper discusses key issues of reasoning over ontology based product information model and proposes an efficient Geometric Ontology Query Reasoner (GOQR) which provides satisfactory ABox query reasoning for geometric product model.
