Abstract
An exhaustive investigation of the performance of the orthogonal moments in reconstructing biomedical images is presented in this paper. The most well known orthogonal moment families the Zernike, Pseudo-Zernike, Fourier-Mellin, Legendre, Tchebichef and Krawtchouk ones are applied in two biomedical image datasets and their qualitative and quantitative performance in reconstructing the images is measured. The experiments have shown that each family behaves differently and their performance is relative to the images´ morphology, with the Krawtchouk moments presenting the best behavior.
