Abstract
An advanced composite five-level converter is proposed in this paper, which owns the clear advantages of power devices reuse and composited clamping. The proposed five-level converter is derived by integrating dual three-level T type modules and one three-level neutral point clamped (3L-NPC) module. Due to the power device reuse scheme, the proposed five-level topology can be also taken as composition of dual three-level T type modules and one passive diode module. Furthermore, its simplified and full modular can facilitate the bus-bar design, which is suitable for medium-voltage and high power applications. Moreover, the operation principle and SPWM modulation are given in this paper to highlight the converter performance. Finally the simulations and experimental results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the main contributions of this paper.
