Abstract
Accelerators, radar, medical radiation production and ionization systems utilize short-duration, high voltage pulses. The pulses for these applications are usually generated by pulse modulators, which often use a pulse transformer to generate high output voltages. An accurate transformer model is a necessity. In this paper a transformer model based on the Jiles-Atherthon method is proposed to simulate such pulse transformers. The Jiles-Atherton model can be described by several first-order differential equations. Hence it can be incorporated with other circuit equations and the overall circuit modeled. In this paper nonlinearity of the transformer described by the Jiles-Atherthon model is constructed as a circuit element, which makes it possible to integrate with other circuit elements seamlessly in Simulink.
