Abstract
In mobile wireless networks, an accepted call may be dropped during the handover procedure because of failure to gain a channel. To provide quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee, a certain amount of resource should be reserved in advance. The performance in terms of QoS and network utilization depends on the accuracy of the resource reservation scheme. We offer a statistical model for the aggregated handover resource demand. We propose an algorithm that dynamically determines the amount of resources that should be reserved. Theoretical expressions for the drop rate and its upper bound are obtained. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the reservation efficiency.
