  • Abstract
The design and construction of the assembly unit is to automate a specific and unique assembly operation, which involves two components. One is a non-rigid rectangular shaped component the other is a cylindrical component. The low precision assembly task involves the insertion of the non-rigid component through the cylindrical component. To complete the task the components are joined using a solder technique. The design of the assembly machine was postulated based on techniques offered by new programmable controllers and has three sub-systems: two of which are servo driven subsystems, and the last sub-system is for the soldering operation
