Abstract
The design of telecommunications power and air-conditioning services is to very high levels of reliability, but when do you begin to over-capitalise in providing engineering services and how can you distinguish between two complex systems on a cost/performance basis? This paper describes the results of modelling complex telecommunications systems using a new commercially available software reliability tool. Common areas of over-capitalisation are highlighted. Field survey information is presented on the performance of AC mains and standby generators
