Abstract
In order to determine apparent power and its components the currents and voltages are presented in the shape of orthogonal functions. On this ground values of active and reactive powers are determined as components of a scalar product of the voltage and current vectors. An example of calculation of powers in thyristor controlled RL -load is presented. Here the vector of input voltage is formed taking into consideration the potentialities of the source of electric energy appearing in nocurrent time intervals. The expression for total power under nonsinusoidal conditions is presented as a generalized form of known expression for an apparent power of fundamental harmonic. Also the calculation of an exchange power Qex for the circuit under consideration is given.
