Abstract
Radiation and scattering properties are two important factors of the antenna, especially for the antenna used in military system. In this paper, the radiation and scattering properties of a modified microstrip antenna with slots in the ground plane is studied. The backscattering and bi-static scattering properties both in-band and out-band of the antenna are analyzed. The results of this antenna are compared with those of the commonly used microstrip antenna. It is found that although the radiation property is slight degraded, the scattering property of the microstrip antenna with slotted ground plane is much better than that of the commonly used antenna. The results of this paper provide a possible way of designing microstrip antenna with low scattering properties.
