Abstract
This paper describes the approach the French Atomic Energy Commission (C.E.A.) has adopted for modeling ultrasonic examinations. One model was first developed to compute the ultrasonic field created by an immersed transducer in the piece being inspected. This field is then entered as input to a second model in which the beam-defect interaction is processed and the result of the examination is predicted, in terms of the position, amplitude, and waveform of the various echoes generated due to the defect
