  • Abstract
Efficient treatment of micro-polluted water, particularly those containing inhibitory and toxic compounds, has been a challenge in recent years. This study proposed and investigated an efficient option for treating such water. Boehmite added an active silica source (AlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3), a novel and efficient catalyst synthesized in the laboratory, has been used successfully in the degradation of chloronitro benzenes (CNBs). The influence of several parameters including pH, dose of AlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3, tertbutyl alcohol concentration were investigated. The results showed that AlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3 could obviously improve the removal of CNBs during ozonation. The removal rates of p-CNB, o-CNB, and m-CNB after 15 min by catalytic ozonation were 98%, 95%and 98%, respectively. The change of pH had obvious effect on the degradation efficiency of CNBs, which indicated that AlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3 catalyst was more suitable for application in neutral pH condition. Ozonation processes, both with and without the addition of AlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3, were significantly influenced by tert-butyl alcohol, which confirmed thatAlOOH/Al2(SiO3)3 catalytic ozonation follows a radical-type mechanism.
