Abstract
The new hollow cathode assemblies (HCAs) based on a tungsten matrix impregnated with barium calcium aluminates have been developed at BVERI. The assembly heater and advanced brazing technique are adopted to improve the compatibility of thermal and mechanical structure, as well as reliability and lifetime. The HCA are designed to deliver currents up to 5A for ion thruster or Hall thruster. This paper introduces structure, technology, and performance characteristics of HCAs.
