Abstract
The performance analysis of a multi-node meteor burst (MB) packet network has been presented. The intermittent nature of the MB channel is realized by breakdown environment created by random service interruptions on a waiting line process. A star type network is considered where different nodes send the data to a central node. A multiple access protocol has been devised by which the central node uses a probe and a busy tone to utilize the channel availabilities efficiently. As in the point to point case, Gaver´s (1962) results for first and second moments of message completion time in a queuing system which experiences preemptive resume interruptions have been employed to compute the average packet delay. Also, the Markov chain approach is used for the evaluation of packet delay, throughput and the probability of blocking in the network. Finally, a simulation has been performed to validate the numerical results
