New developments in the management of power quality performance in a regulated environment

This paper reviews recent developments in utility power quality, management in South Africa. Anew (and more comprehensive) regulatory framework is discussed in the context of experience with previous performance-based requirements. This framework will significantly change! the way in which power quality is addressed by all stakeholders (i.e. utilities, customers, and equipment suppliers) in South Africa. The role of proposed revisions to the NRS-048 Power Quality Standard are discussed with regard to this framework.
