  • Abstract
    In this paper, fabrication of intermediate layer (IML) with a Pt-Cr binary alloy system for granular perpendicular media was discussed. Kerr magnetometer was used to obtain hysteresis loops of the co-sputtered Pt-Cr alloy IMLs. The saturation magnetizations Ms and the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy energy Ku were measured with a vibrating sample magnetometer and a torque magnetometer with an applied field of 5 T, respectively. The microscopic structures were examined with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the recording performance was characterized by the media SNR at 400 kFCI as measured using a SPT/GMR head.
