Abstract
An overview is presented of the gigabit network testbed project. A discussion is presented of the motivations for the project, current plans for network and application research in the testbeds, and the possible impact of the testbeds on the architectures and applications of the stage-three US National Research and Education Network. The five testbeds (AURORA, BLANCA, CASA, NECTAR and VISTAnet) are also discussed individually
