Abstract
In this paper we discuss a new compact multilayered magic-T in microstrip form. By utilizing a wideband microstrip-to-slotline Marchand balun and a chip resistor, the proposed design features an improved bandwidth of 94.2%. A microwave sampler is developed in this paper as well by incorporating the proposed magic-T with a balanced sampling bridge. The new sampler can be implemented in the RF front-end of a time-domain reflectometry measuring instrument or an ultrawideband wireless sensor node. The design concept, circuit topology, and simulated and experimental results in both frequency and time domains of the proposed designs will be investigated throughout the paper.
