Abstract
The use of burst correcting product codes for cryptographic purposes is discussed. The codes are used in a scheme that applies a special type of structured errors that, as far as we know, do not exist in any real communication channel. Although this fact seems of no importance, since the errors in any error-correcting code based cryptosystem are artificially generated at the transmitter, its use allows an improvement in the security level in comparison with similar schemes
