Abstract
A simplification of the adaptive belief propagation (BP) algorithm used for decoding Reed-Solomon (RS) codes for magnetic recording channels which leads to a Chase-type algorithm is presented. The BP algorithm has been used to decode a partly low-density parity-check matrix of an RS code.
