Abstract
In this study a wideband coplanar active microstrip integrated antenna has been designed for satellite related applications. The frequency for this particular design ranges from 3.7 to 12.2 GHz. This covers C and K bands which are 3.7 to 4.2 GHz and 11.7 to 12.2 GHz respectively. To allow the dual band reception the antenna was designed to reject the other frequencies and thus behaves like a band pass filter for C and K bands. The proposed designed is based on GaAs substrate which contains gold patches of different width and height ratios as a passive element of the antenna. Each patch is designed for one band and the signal is then combined though a microwave coupler to be fed to an active device. The active device of the system is a GaAs MESFET which offers good gain in the system. A complete design procedure and analysis has been presented and the established design could provide an economical solution for satellite communication involving dual channel receivers
