Abstract
Theoretical and experimental studies have shown the remarkable capacity and spectral efficiency of V-BLAST. In this paper, we study Fano detection algorithm for the V-BLAST system, which uses QR decomposition of the channel matrix and is based on depth-first tree search. Simulation results show that the performance is comparable to that of ML detector in the cases of QPSK and 16-QAM. Although the Fano algorithm is less complex than the ML algorithm, its complexity is still rather high. This complexity can be reduced at the expense of a degradation of the BER performance.
