Abstract
After stating the requirements for PM-excited synchronous motor drives and analyzing the main harmonics of their torque ripple, two control concepts for torque ripple reduction are presented: current control, based on offline torque estimation; and online observer-based torque control. Experimental results show a reduction in the torque ripple of about a factor of six compared to conventional techniques
