Abstract
Expert-system technology is used to assist planning of capacitor installations on a power system. The solution is verified by comparing confidence factors to loss reductions caused by installing capacitors individually on each bus of the power system. The prototype expert system runs on a PC. The application of expert-system technology to power-system planning is then a step further. An expert-system architecture that facilitates least-cost planning for developing countries is identified
