Abstract
A single-site mobile digital radio system has limited service area and low system uplink throughput, which result from random access to a channel by all mobile units and the unavoidable conflicts. More complex protocols like slotted ALOHA, CSMA, etc., can improve low throughput which is always less then one. The use of multiple transmitter/receiver sites widens the service area and increases the system throughput without using additional frequency channels. Also, the throughput of a radio channel increases with the number of transmitter/receiver sites, with traffic density being the only limitation to the increase in throughput. Some methods are presented for calculating multisite throughput using an iterative method
