Abstract
Two previously proposed methods of Tufts and Kumaresan for estimating paired frequency-wavenumber values of multiple two-dimensional (2- D) sinusoids are evaluated in more detail using results of simulations. The results indicate that the use of singular value decomposition and low rank approximation, instead of the simplified method of [6], lowers the SNR threshold by roughly 8dB and reduces the rms error in estimation by roughly a factor of one half for the case of the sum of two closely spaced 2-D sinusoids.
