Abstract
The compound-Gaussian processes and the random walks have been successfully used in the literature as statistical models for the backscatter from the sea surface. The present authors demonstrate that a continuous-time random walk with stochastic number of steps, arising from a birth-death-immigration problem, can be regarded as a compound-Gaussian process. Additionally, they envisage a fast algorithm for generating time series from such a compound process
