Abstract
This paper proposes an OFDM-based wireless ATM transmission system. In the proposed system, the guard bits, which are cyclically extended by repeating information bits, are inserted before and after serial-parallel converted wireless ATM data bits for OFDM transmission, and these bits are applied for the wireless ATM frame synchronization and the decision of the DFT (discrete Fourier transform) start point at the receiver. In addition, the cyclically extended PN sequence is inserted in some of the proposed OFDM transmission subchannels with the fixed interval to estimate phase rotation, frequency offset and delay characteristics. This proposed system does not need to equip the “bit by bit ” guard interval insertion and removal circuits which are needed in a conventional OFDM system. It is easy to estimate phase rotation, frequency offset and delay characteristics, and the synchronization of wireless ATM cell is also easy. In this paper, moreover, the bit error rate (BER) and the ATM cell error rate (CER) of this wireless ATM transmission scheme are evaluated by computer simulations
