  • Abstract
A numerical procedure for computing spectrally efficient pulse shapes is proposed. The time-bandwidth product of the spectrally efficient pulse that yields a nearly constant envelope in offset quadrature signaling is determined. The results are generalized to the case of energy efficiency in both the frequency and time domains, so that adjacent-channel interference can be traded against intersymbol interference to achieve better bit error performance. A pulse shape that is energy efficient in both the time and frequency domains is determined as a sum of a bandwidth-efficient pulse shape and a time-efficient pulse shape
