  • Abstract
    The use of an adaptive transversal equalizer at the receiver end of a digital radio receiver as a tool for identifying the phase of dispersive fading events is discussed. The identification is based on the online comparison of the equalizer precursor and postcursor taps and can be used without service disruption. It is shown that this method can be applied to dispersive fades with in-band notches and that noise in the received signal is a major cause of identification errors. The method used to compute the equalizer taps is described
