Abstract
Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are mobile wireless ad-hoc networks where the nodes are vehicles. Many vehicles use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide their locations. However the accuracy of GPS devices are not always sufficient enough for certain safety-critical applications. Previous work has been done on improving the initial GPS-provided location coordinates taking into account all measurements taken are not always accurate. The inaccuracies in the measurements prevents the vehicles from finding their exact true locations. This paper looks at using the simulated annealing optimization technique at finding lower bounds on how much improvement is possible given the inaccuracies in the measurements.
