Abstract
Free Space Optics (FSO) is one of the earliest wireless communication form in modern history but was mainly focused for military applications. Low transmit light energy for long range transmission has always been the main problem for FSO to be commercially viable. The availability of low cost LED devices improves the negative perception of FSO. Great improvements in new LED devices offer many new potentials for long range FSO applications. This paper presents the analysis of the link performance of experimental LED-based FSO using similar formulations used in IrDA transmission and compared to the physical experimentations.
